In the past few years, Advanced Strategies Adventures, Inc. has grown, and is still growing with great success. We have acquired a network of experienced people with a diversity of knowledge and talents. We have New York State licensed guides along with personnel certified in CPR and First Aid.Lloyd Weigel is a co-founder and serves on the Board of Directors as our President."Little John" DiMura is our Vice President. Mark A. Spratt co-founder and Executive Director along with serving on the Board of Directors as the Secretary.Jesica Gallagher serves as our Treasurer.
In addition to many volunteers, we also have a 24-hour Emergency Responders Unit. This unit consists of Dan Peryea and John Ryals. Along with being licensed with the FCC, they have short wave radios, CB’s and 4X4 vehicles equipped for any emergency. With technical and Master Mechanic skills, this team is a huge asset to our organization.
In 2006, some of our accomplishments consisted of our very first annual Turkey Challenge Team Up, with dinner at the Whitetail Tavern. Roy Allen (disabled), Trevor VanAuken (hand amputee), Jimmy Crumb and Mark Spratt (both Paraplegics), John Nelson (visually impaired), Tony Marino and Steve Freund (single leg amputees); all shared great experiences that day. Tony Marino was the only one successful of harvesting a Turkey. In September we introduced Pheasant and Chucker Partridge hunting into the program. We went Whitetail Deer hunting at several locations. In spite of not many deer being taken, Steve Freund got a nice 11 point buck, while Jimmy Crumb had the privilege of harvesting a nice 8 point buck with Frank Santorelli’s hunting group.
2007 started out busy for us. Advanced Strategies Adventures, Inc. was invited back to Oneida for the CNY Sportsmen Show on January 27. On March 24th we had our Third Annual Banquet at the Rusty Rail in Canastota, NY. In April we were invited by the Canastota Rotary Club to come back to the Rusty Rail to be guest speakers at one of their meetings. Our yearly Turkey Challenge Team Up Hunt was on May 19th with dinner at the Hotel Solsville. Thanks to our donators and volunteers, in May we were able to hold 30 elderly and disabled turkey hunts as well as 5 youth turkey hunts. On June 16th we held a fishing derby on Oneida Lake, with dinner at Fisher Bay Restaurant. September 22nd and 23rd we were asked back to the Gander Mountain Sportsman’s Days at Carpenters Brook Fish Hatchery. September 25th, Cicero Baptist Church invited us to display our organization at the Driver’s Village Outdoors Sportsmen’s Dinner with Charles Alsheimer. On September 29th we held a Pheasant hunt with evening fishing on Oneida Lake, and dinner at Fisher Bay Restaurant. {The last 2 years Onondaga County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs has donated Pheasants for our program.} To wrap up the year, Advanced Strategies Adventures, Inc. had 7 bow hunts and 20 shotgun/muzzleloading deer hunts at many different locations – many of which were new to us.
Every year we see our list of activities and participants growing. All of these events are made possible through the generosity of our sponsors, donators, and volunteers. Let's keep sharing the experience and make 2008 even greater.
